Rugby League Live 2011 – Friend or Foe

Footy season is just around the corner and whether you’re a big fan or just like to have a quick glance at the latest news and scores, we put Rugby League Live 2011 to the test for the iPhone, iPod Touch and iPad.

Rugby League Live 2011

Rugby League Live 2011 was initially released in 2009 but has come back for the new season bigger and better than ever with some great new features on debut. First up, though, what’s really great about this app is that it provides you with all the information you could possibly need with an easy to use interface. Sure, this stuff is openly available on the web but when the app is free how can you go wrong?

It’s a really easy app to use and, with the new updates for 2011, this might be something you prefer to browsing the web.

Rugby League Live lets you tailor content to your team, while still letting you access feeds for the whole league. All news is fed through by the Australian Associated Press (AAP) including video highlights every Monday morning.

Can’t remember what time game day is? Click on the Game Day icon and each game is laid out for scheduled kick off time, you also have the option to choose between all games per round or just your team of choice, which is pretty handy.

If you’re away from your TV (which is highly unlikely on a footy night, but just in case the Mrs makes you go to the Ballet) you can keep track through the live streaming feature, Live Worm. You can watch and hear the match updates right in front of you if you’re at work, out in the middle of dinner, or otherwise unable to get in front of a TV – whatever the reason, Rugby League Live is your friend.

Another cool feature is Team Lists, which gives you a full name and photo of each player. At this stage, they are still working to get the photo’s up to date and there is a lack of content such as the player bios, history, and stats, but hopefully this will appear in future updates.

*UPDATE a HD version of the app is now available,  NRL Rugby League Live 2011 HD for the iPad. Currently there is only one similar app on offer for the iPad called NRL 2011 that you can purchase for $1.19. Compared with Rugby League Live 2011, NRL 2011 still needs a lot of work but we’ll give credit to the developers for being the first NRL HD app. Would you pay $1.19 to see a HD version of the existing Rugby League Live 2011?

If you’re a big sports fan the developers behind NRL Rugby League Live, Lookout Mobile also cover AFL, Netball, A-league, and Cricket. These apps virtually use the same interface as NRL Rugby League Live 2011, at least you will be familiar with the layout and best of all they remain free.

Verdict

Currently Rugby League Live 2011 is available for free and is compatible with iPhone, iPod Touch and Rugby League Live 2011 HD  for the iPad (with iOS 3.0 or later).

Rugby League Live 2011 is the best app available to track your NRL season for all iDevices. You can them from the app store below. All the best with your teams this year. GO THE BRONCOS!
